Carrying in front an excess belly fat to the point of being obese is becoming an epidemic especially in the North America. Despite the fact that one of the first concerns with being overweight or obesity is typically all about a person’s self concept, the longer the problem lingers for a person, the more medical problems that are going to arise, some of which can be life threatening. Below are only some of the diseases or conditions that can be blamed to being overweight or to obesity:
Cancer. The big C. Cancer has many different types and forms and many of them could be prevented with more attention to eating healthy and avoiding obesity. Some of the foods we eat especially chemically preserved meat contain nitrosamines, which is a cancer causing agent. Grilling meats can also produce chemicals that are definitely carcinogenic.
Diabetes Mellitus. This is a disorder where the pancreas is not producing enough or sometimes not any insulin. Diabetes can lead to a wide variety of other medical issues and obesity is the leading cause, especially in Type II Diabetes Mellitus. Adult onset Diabetes is due to the body having excess glucose which can be a result of overeating.
Enlarged Heart is another heart condition where the muscle of the heart become larger than normal because it is being overworked which usually happens if you are overweight.
Pulmonary Embolism or a blockage of an artery in the lungs, can be fatal. This is attributed to inactivity. Being overweight causes a lot of people to be lazy and reduce activity. After time lack of activity can result in an embolism.
Fatty Liver Disease is a reversible condition where large blobs of fat accumulate in between liver cells. Fatty liver can be considered a single disease that occurs to those with excessive alcohol intake and those who are obese.
Erectile Dysfunction or Impotence is the inability to start or maintain an erection. This can be caused by a medical problem due to obesity or a psychological effect.
Hernia is caused when the hole in the diaphragm weakens and enlarges.
Gastro esophageal Reflux Disease or GERD is a condition where that stomach acid and juices flow from the stomach refluxes into the esophagus. It is common condition in overweight population.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is when cysts develop in the ovaries of overweight females. These can burst causing even further problems.
Congestive Heart Failure or CHF is a condition in which the heart becomes large and weak so can’t pump enough blood to the body’s other organs. This can lead lead to a lot of complications that can be fatal.
This is not the end of the list. People who have excess body in their body, especially their abdomen, are at risk for diseases or conditions like Gallbladder Disease, Depression, Cellulitis, Chronic Renal Failure, Urinary Incontinence, Osteoarthritis and Gout.
